Financial and Statistical Information
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross volunteers and employees to perform the tasks of a Financial & Statistical Information Management (FSI) service associate on a disaster relief operation.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services

Emergency Operations Center-The purpose of this basic Disaster Services course is to prepare Red Cross volunteers and employees who will be assigned to government and emergency settings to work collaboratively with Red Cross partners, helping to ensure a coordinated response that results in effective service delivery. Prerequisites-Participants will benefit from having completed the following Federal Emergency Management Agency independent study courses prior to taking this course: • IS-1 Emergency Manager: An Orientation to the Position • IS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System • IS-650 Building Partnerships with Tribal Governments • IS-700 National Incident Management System • IS – 800 National Response Plan July 15 9am-4pm |
Individual Client Services (Client Casework)
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross volunteers to provide Red Cross emergency disaster assistance to clients.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services

Material Support Services (Logistics Overview and Simulation)
The purpose of this training is to provide basic information about the activities and processes of the Material Support Services function in support of an American Red Cross disaster relief operation. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by Material Support Services workers and how they can get started in their local chapter.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services

Aviation Disaster Workshop-Learn about the role of the American Red Cross in the Aviation Family Assistance Act of 1996 and the role of the local chapter in an aviation disaster response.

Mass Care-Community Services Overview
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to provide an overview of the activities such as feeding and sheltering performed by the Community Services group in support of a disaster relief operation.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services

Public Affairs in Disaster
The purpose of this course is to assist Red Cross paid and volunteer staff in working with the Public Affairs function on a local disaster relief operation and to initiate the Public Affairs function on a State or Major disaster relief operation.

Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism
The purpose of this course is to provide basic information about the issues and safety concerns in performing our work in an environment involving a Weapons of Mass Destruction and/or Terrorism (WMD/T) incident. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by disaster workers performing duties in this environment.

Shelter Operations and Shelter Simulation
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to prepare Red Cross workers to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster.
ERVology
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services course is to prepare volunteers and employees of the Red Cross to safely and effectively use an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and its equipment to meet feeding and other service needs of people affected by disaster.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster and Mass Care Overview
June 17 9am-1pm Individual driving tests scheduled after the course
July 10 6pm-9pm Classroom July 11 Driving Tests for ERV, individual times assigned.
Disaster Mental Health Overview
The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services training is to help participants understand the roles, responsibilities and benefits of the Disaster Mental Health activity within Individual Client Services. Participants will learn how Disaster Mental Health supports both the disaster relief operations workers and clients within the disaster-affected community. COURSE IS OPEN TO ALL VOLUNTEERS—Not restricted to licensed professionals.

Disaster Health Services Overview
The purpose of this training is to provide basic information about the activities of the Disaster Health Services (DHS) function of the American Red Cross. Participants will learn more about what various knowledge, skills, and abilities are needed by Disaster Health Services staff as well as how they can get involved in their local chapter. Overview course is not restricted to Health Personnel.

Disaster Health Services Simulation
The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to work in the Disaster Health Services function on a disaster relief operation. This course completes basic Disaster Services preparation to work in Disaster Health Services (DHS) on local and national relief operations. Course is restricted to Licensed Health Professionals. Prerequisite: Disaster Health Services Overview
Disaster Assessment*
The purpose of this interim training is to provide an overview of the new and revised concepts, procedures, tools and resources contained in the recently released Disaster Assessment (ARC 30-3049) document. This workshop will enable chapter disaster leadership and Disaster Assessment workers to begin to incorporate these concepts into planning, training and response activities.

Disaster Services Training Weekend
The Central Iowa Chapter is offering a Disaster Services Training Weekend. This will allow volunteer and paid staff to attend a specialty track of training to achieve the necessary training to apply to be on the local and national disaster teams.
